Meijer State Games of Michigan launches Virtual Games

Sports lineup includes running, cycling, BMX, fishing, golfing, rowing, skateboarding and tae kwon do
Grand Rapids, Mich., May. 28, 2020 ─ Meijer State Game of Michigan will be hosting its first Virtual Games starting now through June 30. Anyone is eligible to participate in the inaugural Virtual Games. The sporting events featured are running, cycling, BMX, fishing, golfing, rowing, skateboarding, and tae kwon do.
Eric Engelbarts, Executive Director of the Meijer State Games of Michigan stated, “The Virtual Games is a unique opportunity for athletes of all ages and ability levels to stay active while at home and earn a medal while doing so.”
Running, cycling, fishing, golfing, and rowing events are $20 until June 14 and $25 after June 14. Each participant will be mailed a Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games gold medal and a t-shirt. Once participants’ results and finishing photos/videos are submitted to the Meijer State Games website, participants will be featured on a virtual leaderboard.
The deadline to register for these events is June 30.
BMX and skateboarding co-hosted by AGA Nation are free events that require contestants to submit a minute or less video of their best tricks. In each category, the top three videos with the most likes and reactions on Meijer State Games social media accounts will be awarded a first place prize of $125 and a gold medal, a second place prize of $75 and a silver medal, or a third place prize of $50 and a bronze medal.
The deadline to register for these events is June 11.
Co-hosted by the Tae Park Tae Kwon Do organization, the tae kwon do ‘forms’ event features divisions broken down by belts and age groups. A registration fee of $25 includes a Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games gold medal and a t-shirt. Participants submit a video of them performing the forms routine. Experienced Tae Park Tae Kwon Do judges will review and score the videos. Registration for this event opens June 1.
